La película esta basada en la correspondencia íntima entre el pintor y su esposa, donde expresa tanto el profundo amor que sentía por su familia, como su forma de trabajar. Se inicia la película tras su ingreso en el Aula de Dibujo de la Escuela de Artesanos de Valencia en 1876, hasta su consagración definitiva en la gran exposición de 1906 en París, pasando por los lienzos que hizo para la Hispanic Society de New York. Es una película de una creatividad plástica y crómatica espléndida.
