Die völlig ahnungslose Ellen erfährt, dass ihr Mann sie mit der Nachbarin betrügt. Umgehend beschließt sie, zusammen mit ihrer Tochter Nina auszuziehen und den kompletten Hausstand mitzunehmen. Mit der neuen Situation sind Mutter und Tochter gleichermaßen überfordert. So leben sie chaotisch inmitten von Umzugskisten, ernähren sich von Fertigpizza, und Nina entwickelt sich in ihrer neuen Schule mehr und mehr zur Außenseiterin. Das Vertrauen in ihre Mutter hat sie längst verloren.
